The latest version of i-TURTLE has a new feature. You can switch the TURTLE TTL to Manual and back. You have to use the backlight switch to change the mode. The left side DIP switch part 1. DIP is set the default mode. When the camera goes to sleep the TURTLE switch back the mode to the default.
Some series for exapmple the Nikon D500 switch the backlight during the expo. So the correct picture we have to switch of the backlight on the camera “d9” menu.

The TTL works automatically so sometimes there is a slight over or underexposure in specific situations. However in this case you can change the camera’s strobe or exposure compensation.or you can adjust your image during post processing. The TURTLE for Nikon has a manual setting feature so you can turn off TTL even under water. If all photos are overly bright or dark there must be some faults, in this case please contact us.
It’s simple: if the photos you take in different conditions with different camera settings are not over- or underexposed without any manual setting the TURTLE works properly.
Basically only the camera and strobe setup matters. If the housing has any bulkhead to control the strobe or a connector for fiber optic cable it should work properly.
Yes, you can use both of them with the same TURTLE TTL-trigger. For fiber optic connection we include a LED board, but we suggest to use a multi core cable for the best results.
We tested it with Ikelite DS160 and DS161, Inon Z240, Z330, Sea&Sea XS-D1, YS-D2, YS-110a, YS-250, Retra. As the strobes’ features and power are different, you can change the settings of the TURTLE by yourself so if you change your strobe you won’t need to change your TTL-converter,
All cameras are different, but there are similiraties, so you can use a specific TURTLE TTL converter version for several DSLR cameras. The Nikon version works with nearly all Nikon camera models, the Sony works with all Sony cameras, and the Olympus/Panasonic TURTLE with all Olympus and Panasonic MILC models. There are more TURTLE for Canon versions for different Canon models. In the descriptions we write which cameras are tested with the specific TTL-trigger.
The TURTLE is a TTL-converter which control the strength of strobe lighting automatically so you won’t need to adjust it manually under water. (TTL: Through-the-lens metering, a camera feature that permits light metering through the taking lens itself.) You can use via sync cords or fiber optic cables, it works with many DSLR cameras, underwater housings and strobes.
